Ministry of Construction and Housing

The Act of the Ministry of Reconstruction and Housing specified the following tasks
(Act No. 3D in 1978 )

1. Proposals for buildings, housing, roads, bridges and civil airports according to the overall State’s plans.
2. Conducting technical and economic feasibility studies for the projects entrusted to it as to enhance translation of knowledge and technologies suitable to the country.
3. Setting designs, documents and work programs for the projects entrusted to it for execution through its affiliates or Iraqi, Arab and foreign consultants.
4. Undertaking quality control tasks and contribution towards preparation of construction specifications.
5. Execution of the projects entrusted to it through its executive affiliates or Iraqi, Arab and foreign contractors via public tenders or direct invitations.
6. Supervision and follow-up of execution of the projects entrusted to it.
7. Execution, as a contractor, of other parties’ projects inside Iraq or abroad through its execution and design affiliates.
8. Maintenance of public roads, inclusive of expressways outside the boundaries of Baghdad Mayoralty and the Municipalities as well as maintenance, provisioning and lanes upkeep of bridges and acquisition of land for such projects.
